An 1800’s pioneer creativity, this rug only requires one embroidery stitch. Circles of wool fabric in graduated sizes are layered and blanket stitched to create a decorative table/furniture runner, or wall hanging. They are called “penny rugs” as various sized coins were used as templates to cut & create the circles. Sometimes a penny was sown in for good luck or to add weight to the rug.
